The Tata Nexon EV can be charged in two ways: fast charging and normal charging, and the troubleshooting process for each charging method is different.

Before you start troubleshooting your Nexon EV for charging issues, it’s essential to ensure that you have followed the correct charging procedure for your electric vehicle.

How to Charge Nexon EV Properly ?

Charging procedures differ between normal and fast charging for your Tata electric vehicle. To ensure you’re charging your electric vehicle correctly, follow the instructions outlined below.

  • Make sure the vehicle is parked with the parking brake engaged before connecting the charging cable.
  • Ensure that the vehicle’s charging port is clean and free of dust, water, or snow when connecting the charging cable. If it’s not clean, use an appropriate cleaning method to remove any dust, water, or ice.
  • If you remove the charging cable, wait for at least 10 seconds before reinserting it.

Tata Nexon EV Not Charging with Home Charger

If your Tata Nexon EV is not charging using the home charger, there may be various issues that could be causing this problem.

If charging is not starting or stops abruptly, you may observe the following symbols on the control box next to their respective LEDs:

  • ‘House’ Symbol: This symbol typically indicates the status of the power source, likely your home or charging location.
  • ‘Control Box’ Symbol: This symbol is related to the control unit of the charging station. It may signify issues with the control unit, which could affect the charging process.
  • ‘Vehicle’ Symbol: This symbol relates to the electric vehicle itself. It may indicate that the vehicle is not accepting a charge properly, or there could be a communication issue between the vehicle and the charging station.
  • ‘Fault’ Symbol: This symbol is a general indication of a fault or problem with the charging process.

1. 1st Green Light Blinking

If you see only one green light blinking on your Tata Nexon EV home charger and notice the red light (fault light) glowing or blinking.

Red Light Blinking

If the Tata Nexon EV home charger displays a blinking red light alongside the first green light blinking, it signifies that there might be various issues:

  • Charger Gun Not Connected Properly.
  • Charger socket using doesn’t have the adequate capacity.
  • Charger Gun Not getting locked properly.
  • Charger pin being dirty or not clean.
  • Handbrake not applied.
  • Blown Fuse

Troubleshooting

To troubleshoot the issues, there are different approaches depending on the root cause of the problem.

  • Charger Gun Not Connected Properly : Ensure that charger is connected properly.
  • Charger Gun Not getting locked properly : Connect the charger properly.
  • Charger socket using doesn’t have the adequate capacity: Use 20 A sockets
  • Charger pin being dirty or not clean : If you need to clean your Tata Nexon EV charger, you can either do it yourself or take it to a service center. If you choose to clean it yourself, make sure to turn off the power supply and use proper equipment.

    Additionally, use CRC electrical cleaner to avoid any short circuits. However, it’s important to be careful when cleaning and if you’re unsure, it’s best to take it to a service center for cleaning.
  • Handbrake not applied : Please make sure to apply the handbrake before attempting to charge your NEXON EV. The vehicle will not charge if the handbrake is not applied.

2. 2nd Green Light Blinking

If you see a red light indication with 2nd Green Light on your Tata Nexon EV charger, there could be issue with charging control box.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with the charging control box of your Tata Nexon EV, it is recommended to contact the service center for assistance and have them check the control box for any potential problems.

3. 3rd Green Light Blinking

If you notice that the 3rd green light and red light are blinking simultaneously on your Tata Nexon EV charger, it could indicate one of the following issues:

  • Charging is in progress but taking longer than usual.
  • Charging stopped after sometimes.

This may be due to one of the following reasons:

  • Voltage issue: Meter connection is not 3.5 kW or above
  • Vehicle overcurrent draw, which could be caused by the battery not cooling properly.

Troubleshooting

  • Voltage Issue : To avoid voltage issues, ensure that your meter connection is above 3.5 kW and that no other appliances are running simultaneously while charging your vehicle. It’s recommended to charge your vehicle during early morning hours when the load on your local grid is minimum.
  • Current overdraw : The vehicle may overdraw electricity, which could be caused by battery heating. Battery issues may arise due to several causes, such as:

    Battery management system issue : It may be due software not working properly. go to service center any update the software, it is recommended to take the vehicle to the service center and update the software.

    Low level of coolant: Please check the coolant level of the EV and ensure it is at an adequate level. Low coolant levels may result in improper cooling of the battery.

    Battery Not cooling: Battery heating in your Tata Nexon EV could be caused by the battery cooling pump not running. To troubleshoot this issue, check the EF22 fuse located in the motor compartment fuse box.

4. Three Light ON but Not Charging

If you notice that there are three green lights on your Tata Nexon EV charger without any red light indication but your EV is still not charging, it could be due to the following reason:

  • Jammed charger gun lock actuator.

Troubleshooting

  • Jammed Charger Gun lock Actuator : Sometimes, the actuator may get stuck due to dirt, and as a result, the charger may not be able to lock the gun properly. In such cases, you can manually lock the gun using the ring-like lever located on the right side of the charger plug. This lever can be accessed from below the charger plug. However, before attempting to locate the lever, please make sure to turn off the power supply of the charger.

Tata Nexon EV Fast Charging Problems

If you’re having trouble fast charging your Tata Nexon EV, the diagnosis process requires a different approach and troubleshooting steps than normal charging issues.

1. Charger get connected but not charging.

If you are experiencing issues with fast charging your Tata Nexon EV, you can locate a compatible fast charging station using the Tata Power EZ App. This problem can occur regardless of the charger make and model.

Troubleshooting

This problem is generally faced when the charger is connected to the vehicle before the payment is made through the app or card. To avoid this, make sure to connect the charger to the vehicle after completing the payment and following the charger connection instructions displayed on the screen.

2. Error Code Displayed on Fast Charger

Sometimes, a fast charger may display an error code and fail to work properly.

Troubleshooting

To troubleshoot an error code on a fast charger, you can try pressing the red round reset button located on the front or side bar of the charging station panel. After pressing, rotate the button in a clockwise direction to reset the charging station. This may resolve the issue and allow you to continue charging your Tata Nexon EV.
